Showbox: Video Creation Platform
Founded in 2015, Showbox was ahead of its time, introducing a cloud-based platform that made professional-quality video production accessible to everyone—long before such tools became commonplace. The platform catered to individuals and businesses, offering intuitive formats like product reviews, automatic titles for social media shows, rankings, virtual background replacement without a green screen, and access to free media libraries.
Branding
Designing the Showbox editing tool with a dark-themed interface was a deliberate choice to enhance user experience and content focus. Dark backgrounds are known to reduce eye strain, especially in low-light environments, making prolonged editing sessions more comfortable for users. This design approach also allows vibrant elements, such as videos and presenters, to stand out more prominently against the subdued interface, directing users' attention to the content without distractions.
As a product designer at Showbox, I was tasked with creating a user-friendly editing tool that brought professional video production to everyone. Designing for cutting-edge technology—still in its early stages—was both exciting and challenging. I focused on highlighting the platform's most polished features (like automatic titles), ensuring users could easily produce professional-quality videos while the technology continued to evolve.
Iconography
The Showbox editing tool was designed to break away from the traditionally serious tone of editing platforms and make the process enjoyable and accessible. The interface was crafted to encourage a sense of creativity and fun, aligning with the needs of young adults starting their social media careers as influencers. This was achieved through a playful design language that balanced simplicity with engagement, ensuring that users could explore and create content effortlessly.
How to Make a Show on Showbox?
Showbox offered creators an intuitive platform to craft custom show openers—an essential feature for YouTubers and content creators looking to establish their brand identity. The platform allowed users to upload their own media or select audio, songs, and visuals from the Showbox library.
The title sequence editor functioned like a graphic package that adapted to individual needs. Once assets were uploaded, Showbox automatically generated special effects that could be fine-tuned through the editing interface. This thoughtful design ensured that even users with limited technical expertise could create professional-quality openers, adding polish to their shows.
The UI balanced functionality with creativity, guiding users through each step while keeping the experience enjoyable and efficient.
